Background

Mark Mattson

EngineerOnUp was started by Mark Mattson, PE as a way to share resources that he developed for those desiring to deepen their knowledge in engineering. After developing numerous resources for courses that he taught at the university level, EngineerOnUp provides a platform to share these resources with students both at and beyond the four walls of his home institution.

Mark studied at two of New York's premier research universities (Cornell University and SUNY Buffalo) obtaining both undergraduate and graduate degrees in civil engineering. For over two decades, Mark has worked in the civil engineering industry. His experience ranges from consulting on multi-million dollar projects both in the United States and internationally to teaching at the university level. Mark has held a professional engineering license in New York State since 2007 and enjoys sharing his experiences with those starting their journey.

Mark and his wife are the parents of four children and believe the command of Jesus to "love one another" is key to life. He encourages all to "press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14, ESV. In his free time, he likes to hike, camp, run and play games with his family. He also makes YouTube videos, codes and makes resources for people like you. For reading all the way to the end, you deserve extra credit. :)

Testimonials

Here are a few testimonials from students that used the resources provided by EngineerOnUp.

I wanted to personally thank you. I recently passed the FE Civil exam, and your YouTube videos played a major role in that success. Your clear explanations, structured problem-solving, and real-world insights were incredibly helpful throughout my preparation. I deeply appreciate the time and effort you’ve invested in making such valuable educational content available. It truly made a difference for me.

Don't let being away from school for a long time keep you from pursuing the next step toward licensure. These students found success on the FE after extended time away.

I just wanted to let you know that I just got word that I passed the FE exam almost exactly 8 years after I graduated from college! My degree isn't in civil engineering so a lot of the topics on the civil FE were brand new to me, and your videos and practice questions were such a massive help in introducing me to them and helping me figure out exactly how to work through the problems. Thank you so much for having your FE review videos be available for people like me to use to study - I don't know if I would have passed without them!
Mark, I graduated with my engineering degree in 1989 and despite all the advice to take the FE immediately... I waited. Well, life happens and I never found the time till now. As you can imagine, some parts are much more difficult the longer you wait. All the stats showed odds favored failure at this late date. I studied pretty much every night and all weekend for most of January and February and your videos were a huge part of that routine. I can't thank you enough for how much they helped. This morning I found out I passed (34 years after graduation). Next step, PE test in October. I think your contribution to the engineering community is remarkable! A true blessing. Thanks again! PS, love the jokes

Don't let failure discourage you either. I recently spoke with a student who had failed eight times before passing. The student supplemented his study with these materials and got a passing score on the FE! Read below from a few others who did not pass on their first attempts.

I took the exam twice and failed. I heard about your YouTube videos from colleagues and decided to use your videos and practice problems as my foundation for studying this third time! found out this morning I passed!!!!! Thank you so much. You are awesome and the jokes were always something to look forward to at the end of each video.
Hey Mark! Just wanted to let you know, I have been out of school since 2017 and had failed the FE Civil multiple times before finding your videos. You were by far a key to my success. I finally passed the FE a week ago and I couldn't have done it without your videos. Hope you are doing well!
